With more than 11 years experience in sleep medicine, Jeannine Louise Gingras, MD is highly qualified to offer quality comprehensive, innovative, and compassionate sleep service care to individuals from infancy (including preterm) and childhood to adolescence, adult, and older adults. Unlike many board-certified physicians in sleep medicine, Dr. Gingras practices sleep medicine exclusively. She is a national and international leader in sleep research, previously focusing on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and now Restless Legs Syndrome/Periodic Limb Movement Disorders. She is a recognized leader in Pediatric Sleep Disorders. Dr. Gingras is double Board-Certified in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and American Medical Sub-specialty Board of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Gingras is uniquely qualified in pediatric sleep evaluations because of her Board-Certification in Pediatrics with more than 20 years experience and Board-Certification in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine, having evaluated hundreds of preterm and term infants for Apnea of Prematurity, Apnea of Infancy, and SIDS Home Monitoring. She has built and directed two Pediatric Sleep Programs in the Charlotte area and an Infant Sleep Apnea Center. Dr. Gingras earned her Medical Degree from the University of Vermont School of Medicine in Burlington, VT. In addition to her medical degree, Dr. Gingras holds a Master of Arts in Zoology and Master of Science in Pharmacology.
Dr. Gingras is distinguished as a Diplomate of the American Medical Subspecialty Board, Sub-Board of Sleep Medicine; Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine; Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics; Diplomate, Sub-Board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine; and Fellow of the American Association of Sleep Medicine. She is a member of the American Sleep Disorders Association, Society for Pediatric Research (Emeritus), Charlotte Independent Physicians, Charlotte Pediatric Society, and Mecklenburg Medical Society.
During her career, Dr. Gingras has presented 68 research abstracts at national meetings and has served as an invited presenter at 69 conferences. She has secured numerous research grants. Her 37 original research studies are published in prestigious peer-reviewed international journals and 3 book chapters. She continues to be active in sleep disorder research, as evidenced by ongoing publications.
Throughout her career, Dr. Gingras has been recognized with professional awards and special recognition including, the Edward Trudeau Scholar Award from the American Lung Association; Fellowship Award and Institute Fellow, from the Institute for Pediatric Service of the Johnson & Johnson Baby Products Company; and Carolinas SIDS Award of Excellence. She served as a panel member for the Pediatric Medical High Risk Review Panel of the International Conference of Infant Studies and Chair for the Fifth SIDS International Conference, as well as invited faculty for the National SIDS Alliance Meeting. Dr. Gingras was a member of the planning committee for the National Meeting of the American Association of SIDS Prevention Physicians, Year 2000 National SIDS Alliance Meeting; and Annual Meeting of the American Association of SIDS Prevention Physicians. Dr. Gingras has taught at Duke University, Carolinas Medical Center, and University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
